Day 22
Let’s do what God has given us to do, and leave to Him what He has promised He will do.
‘As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.’ (MATTHEW 4:18)
The first time that Jesus met Andrew, Peter, James and John, He was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, and they were fishing together from their boat. He called to them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men’ (Matthew 4:19 KJV). On the one hand He was issuing an invitation and on the other a promise. ‘Follow me,’ that’s the invitation; ‘and I will make you fishers of men,’ that’s the promise. If we don’t understand the difference between the invitation and the promise we will be tempted to treat it all as an invitation and respond, ‘I will follow you and will try to become a fisher of men.’ Being a fisher of men is not our responsibility! It will be the inevitable outworking of our living in union with Him.
Let’s accept the invitation, which is always to go deeper into Christ. He will fulfill what He has promised – we will find rest, we will be fruitful, we will fish for men and we will see His Church grow.
Lord, I choose to yield my life to You. Make me who You want me to be.
