Day 26
Instead of God’s wrath being channelled towards you and me, it’s diverted to Christ.
‘This will take place on the day when God judges people’s secrets through Jesus Christ.’ (ROMANS 2:16)
The idea of judgment is not a very popular subject, despite the fact that judgment holds a significant place in the heart of any society. A nation with laws must have its law courts to uphold them and judge those who violate them. If our government was not judgmental, we would have people speeding down the freeways, breaking into homes, stealing and killing.
The judgment of God is not some unfortunate aspect of God’s character. Part of the integrity of God is His righteousness. We might like the idea of getting away with sin, but should be thankful that we are given the dignity of being judged.
Here is the wonder of the gospel. The judgment of God was poured out on Christ as our substitute, so that, though we deserve to feel the full weight of it on ourselves, the cross of Christ has addressed God’s wrath and satisfied His judgment. His integrity is intact, His righteousness remains utterly consistent and we are free. Not free to sin, but free to live on the basis of our relationship with Him who is our Saviour, our Justifier and the One who has taken our guilt upon Himself.
Lord, thank You for the gift of Christ’s loving sacrifice.
