Day 18

Charles Price

God will never satisfy us outside of His fullness.

‘He brought us out from there to bring us in and give us the land he promised on oath to our ancestors.’ (DEUTERONOMY 6:23)

Every morning during their forty years in the wilderness travelling from Egypt to Canaan, God fed the Israelites with manna. The manna became a chief source of their grumbling.

Why did God feed them something so dissatisfying? The Bible describes the manna appearing on the desert floor as white and wet like dew (looking like milk), before drying into wafers, and tasting of honey. How had God described the land of Canaan? ‘A land flowing with milk and honey’ (Exodus 3:8). I suggest to you that implicit in the manna were all the ingredients of God’s full provision for His people – milk and honey. But although the manna contained the essential ingredients, it did not satisfy them. God did not intend to satisfy Israel in the wilderness, in the place of disobedience. He intended only to satisfy them in Canaan – a journey that should have taken them only eleven days (Deuteronomy 1:2).

God will never satisfy us outside of the fullness of the Spirit. All believers are sealed with the Spirit and thus have a ‘taste of honey’ in their hearts, but if it is that alone we know, we will not be satisfied, only frustrated. We are intended to live in His fullness.

Are you settling for maintenance rations or are you living in the fullness of Christ?
