Day 19

Charles Price

The quality of what flows out of our hearts is determined by the quality of what exists in our hearts.

‘A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.’ (LUKE 6:45)

A young lady came up to me after a service and told me this was her last Sunday in church. I asked her why and she told me she was getting married and moving away. ‘Whom are you marrying?’ I asked. I shouldn’t have asked! I got everything, and I mean everything about this guy – and I must say he seemed to be a wonderful man.

This young woman’s heart was full of joy and adoration for her husband-to-be and it all came pouring out. As witnesses of Jesus Christ, it shouldn’t be hard to think of something to say! The authenticity of our witness will be the expression of what exists in our own hearts. We are called to know Christ Himself before we are called to serve Him. Jesus said, ‘Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink’ (John 7:37) – that is the first invitation. Then, in consequence, ‘Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them. By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive’ (John 7:38-39). The more we drink of Him, the more will flow out from within us.

What aspects of your relationship with Christ overflow to others?
