Day 27

Charles Price

God marked off Abraham’s sexuality as sacred to the covenant.

‘Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.’ (1 CORINTHIANS 6:18)

Circumcision was the mark of the covenant that God made with Abraham. Why circumcision? Why not piercing his ear or a nose ring? God chose circumcision because He set Abraham apart primarily to father a nation, and ultimately to bring the ‘seed of Abraham’ (Galatians 3:16), which would be the Messiah.

In the early church, there were Jewish believers who believed circumcision was vital to becoming a Christian. The issue was settled at the Council of Jerusalem in Acts 15, and a proclamation was issued that they were to abstain from various things, including sexual immorality (Acts 15:29).

If we’re serious about our Christian lives we must bring our sex lives under the authority of Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit. If you’ve fallen in this area, I suggest three things. Confess your sin before God. Come to God with a contrite heart, admitting your brokenness and dependence on Him. Secondly, you need forgiveness from those you have sinned against, making it right with your fellow man. Finally, you need to do whatever needs to be done to put it right. That means severing relationships that aren’t godly, cleaning up relationships with apology and confession.

Is your sexuality under the Lordship of Christ?
