God’s will often change with changed circumstances.

‘I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.’ (JEREMIAH 18:3-4)

The Will of God is not an unchangeable, fixed rule for our lives. That was blown in the Garden of Eden when humanity disobeyed and fell into sin.

When Adam and Eve realized their sin, a marvellous thing happened. God, in His sovereignty, adjusted to their fallen situation. He made them clothes to cover their embarrassment and in so doing, began the story of redemption. He ‘made garments of skin,’ which means blood had to be shed to clothe them (Genesis 3:21). God’s Will adjusts to the realities of the situation.

Jeremiah saw in the house of the potter that when the clay was marred, the potter didn’t throw it out. Instead he ‘formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him’ (Jeremiah 18:4). That is what God does for us. We are never eliminated from His Will, but to the measure we are pliable in His hands. We may have transgressed and even messed up our lives, but He will mould us into something else, to what ‘seemed best to him.’ That is our confidence, when we come in our brokenness and estrangement from Him, allowing Him to remould us.
