Day 25

Charles Price

He has promised to be all we need in every difficulty and hardship.

‘In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us.’ (Ephesians 1:7-8)

The word lavish is a great word. The dictionary defines lavish as, ‘giving in large quantities.’ Other words included in the definition are ‘excessive’, ‘profuse’, and ‘overabundant’. In this passage, Paul is telling us that the riches of God’s grace have been lavished on us – excessively, in large quantities, and in overabundance. God has nothing to give us outside of Christ, and everything to give us in Christ.

What He gives in Christ is adequate! Every blessing, every promise, every resource is ours by His presence in our lives – nothing is left out. Is that our experience of Christ? Is He merely the patron of our Christianity, and we are left to work it out by our own wisdom and ability? Or is He the substance of our Christianity. Do we have the confidence that everything to which He calls us, He, Himself will bring it to pass? Are we consciously aware that

whatever experience we face, however unexpected it may be – Jesus is adequate. Anything we feel we need in addition to Christ would be, by definition, a statement of His inadequacy. He is all we need for life, godliness and fruitfulness.

Thanks for being everything for me, Lord. I’m forever grateful.
