Day 30

Charles Price

Outside of Christ, God is not our Father.

‘The Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.’ (Romans 8:15-16)

To be in Christ is to share in His sonship. God has only one Son, so we enter into sonship with the Father only by virtue of the fact we have been adopted in Christ. Outside of Christ, we do not havegrounds to call God our Father. Scripture makes a clear distinction between the children of God and the children of the devil. In fact, Jesus says to the Pharisees in John 8:44: ‘You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires.’

Sonship is a wonderful status bestowed on us by our union with Christ in which we share the statusand privileges of Christ’s position. We are ‘sons’ irrespective of gender, for we take Christ’s standing, not only as beloved children, but as heirs – ‘heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ’ (Romans 8:17). I love the phrase in Romans 8:15: ‘We cry, “Abba, Father.”’ Abba is an intimate Aramaic term that is the equivalent of ‘Daddy’ in English. It carries not only status and relationship, but warmth, affection, tenderness and love. What a privilege to enjoy God as our Father.

Do you come to God as your ‘Daddy’? Go to that intimate place with Him today.
