Day 3

Charles Price

The foundation of God’s guidance is a personal, living relationship with God Himself.

‘If you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver… then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.’ (PROVERBS 2:3-5)

One of the ways God gives us spiritual insight is through other people who have walked a similar journey – but we need to be careful where we look for counsel. The King James Version translates Psalm 1:1: ‘Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly.’ In other words, we need counsel, but that counsel must come from the right people.

As a young man I made it my business to get to know some mature, wise, and godly people, and I will always be thankful for that. Today I make a call every now and then to gain some insight from wiser people. Where do they direct me? The wise ones always take me back to Scripture. The Word of God is the foundation for all spiritual insight. While we need to gain counsel from others, we also need to pray, study the Scripture and, ultimately, trust God. It’s from our intimacy with Him that we receive insight, direction and guidance.

How is God guiding you? Do you look to God, to His Word, and to wise counsel?
