Day 29

Charles Price

We live on a battlefield.

‘Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.’ (EPHESIANS 6:12)

Ephesians chapter 6 indicates there is a state of war between much of the visible world and the invisible world. The invisible world consists of God and of Satan, of angels and of demons, of good alongside evil. These forces permeate our natural physical world. It is not that these are equal forces, for though Satan has power, God is all-powerful; Satan is created, God is creator. The victory already belongs to God, but there is a continuous, ongoing battle in which each of us is engaged.

Our role in the battle is to ‘stand.’ Three times Paul states that. ‘Put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then…’ (Ephesians 6:12-14a). To stand is a defensive posture. We are not fighting to obtain a victory, but from a position of a victory already won.

We are not the aggressor for we do not need to be, the victory is won, but we defend the position we have in Christ and the victory that goes with that position.

Do not forget to be aware that we have an enemy in the field.
