Day 19

Charles Price

Being in the Will of God is not something we have to orchestrate.

‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.’ (Proverbs 3:5-6)

The Bible doesn’t just give us principles about the will of God or riddles to help us work out His will for us. He gives us His Holy Spirit to direct us. The will of God is not like a big map on a wall with a ‘you are here’ arrow pointing to where we are today and a line to where we will be in five years. Nor is it a GPS that tells us exactly what to do at every turn.

The will of God is more like a compass that points in a direction established by His Word and His Spirit. He places His desires in our heart by His Spirit, which is always consistent with His Word. As we follow the direction of the compass, we can trust Him to open the right doors, provide the rightresources and we can rest in His timing. Directing our paths is an undertaking He has promised to fulfill. Our task is to acknowledge Him, which is to trust Him and allow His providential ordering ofcircumstances to move us on in His direction. Sometimes we do meet a fork in the road and have to make a decision, but if we are acknowledging Him the decision will be the right one. If it is not,‘Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it”’ (Isaiah 30:21).

What does trusting God mean for your plans?
